Market lambs must be on the grounds by 3:00 pm Friday September 15, 2023.

Rules

  1. Entries must be submitted by September 8, 2023 to West TN State Fair, P.O Box 1404, Jackson, TN. 38302. Entry forms are online at www.wstfair.com and may be mailed.
  2. Entry fees will be $5.00 per animal. PASSES WILL BE CHECKED AT THE GATE.
  3. Lambs must be accompanied by an official certificate of veterinary inspection.
  4. Only Junior exhibitors will be allowed to enter. Lambs must be owned by the exhibitor prior to August 1, 2022.
  5. An exhibitor may show no more than 4 lambs in the show.
  6. All lambs must have lamb teeth and must be a wether or a ewe lamb.
  7. There will be no minimum or maximum weight to be eligible for the show.
  8. Lambs will be weighed and divided into classes by eight. There will be no more than 10 animals in a class.
  9. There will not be a sale in conjunction with the show.
  10. Three showmanship classes will be offered: Junior, Junior High and Senior.
  11. Bedding will be furnished.
  12. Commercial Ewes will be shown in the Market Lamb show BUT will be divided into their own classes by weight.
  13. A Supreme Champion will be awarded overall as well as a Reserve Grand Champion.

Rules

  5. The show is open to registered Ewes and Rams. Sept. 1st is to be used as the base date for computing ages of sheep. Animals in lamb classes must have lamb teeth.
  6. Ewes shown in market classes or the commercial ewe show are not eligible for the breeding show.
  7. A Supreme Champion and Reserve  will be awarded overall.
  8. Three showmanship classes will be offered:
    a. Junior (grade 4th grade & under, 5th, 6th)
    b. Junior High (grade 7, 8, 9)
    c. Senior (grade 10, 11, 12)
  9. To have a separate breed show you must have:
    a. Must have a minimum of 15 head
    b. Must be represented by three (3) separate exhibitors

  6. Senior Yearling Ewe born Sept. 1, 2020 to Feb. 15, 2021
  7. Jr. Yearling Ewe born Feb. 16 to Aug. 31, 2021
  8. Senior Ewe lamb born Sept. 1 to Dec. 31, 2021
  9. Early Junior Ewe lamb born Jan. 1 to Jan. 31, 2022
  10. Intermediate Junior Ewe lamb born Feb. 1 to Feb. 28, 2022
  11. Late Junior Ewe lamb born after Mar. 1, 2022
  12. Grand Champion Ewe

**An exception to the above classifications of sheep may be made when an exhibitor wishes to enter a younger animal in the next older age classification. In no case will an older animal be entered in a younger age classification than its date of birth would permit.

  2.  Entry fees will be $5.00 per animal.
  3. All animals must be in compliance with TN scrapie rules. All slaughter and market animals must have a permanent scrapie tag in their ear. Each animal must have a permanent ID in addition to the scrapie tag (ear tag, tattoo, no tags on collars).
  4. All market animals must have all milk teeth in place at weigh-in or they will not show.
  5. You must show in either the Market show or the Doe show and not both.
  6. Market animals will be weighed and divided into classes based on that weight.

Market Classes

  1. Light weight
  2. Middle weight
  3. Heavy weight
  4. Registration papers are required on all registered animals.
  5. If they are not registered then they will be aged by their teeth.
    a. All milk teeth = Doe kid
    b. Two teeth = Yearling
    c. 4 or more = Aged
  6. It will be the officials’ discretion to place them accordingly.
  7. No bucks allowed on grounds.
  8. There are no pens so be prepared to tie your goats during the show.
  9. Bedding will be furnished.

Doe Classes

To be determined by weight.

  1. Doe kids (milk teeth only)
  2. Yearlings (2 teeth only)
  3. Aged Does (4 teeth or more)
  4. Grand Champion
  5. Reserve Grand Champion
  6. A Supreme Champion will be awarded overall
